Unions used to be about Americans and American workers. Today, they are about putting more money in the pockets of the union leaders and politicians.
Unions have eliminated support for Americans and begun representing illegal aliens!
We have the PCUN that describes itself as “…Oregon’s largest Latino organization…”
Then there is the AFL-CIO that heads a huge group of unions internationally. I understand their defending and supporting union actions, but shouldn’t they first respect and follow the federal and state laws of the country/state they are in? I have seen many rallies for illegal aliens sponsored by and protected by members of the AFL-CIO and they are more aggressive and criminal than the members they are “representing”.
Recently SEIU has begun an attack on Providence Healthcare workers. Providence is one of the largest hospital systems on the west coast and is NON-UNION!
This really upsets the union idiots. How could thousands of non-union employees be well represented and happy?
It’s called the free market and freedom of employees to choose. Providence has to compete in wages, PTO and benefits or it wouldn’t attract the kind of employees required to make it a competitive employer or service. If employees are unhappy, they are free to find employment elsewhere. If the employer is unhappy, they are free to eliminate the problem employee and save the quality and credibility of the organization.
First and foremost of concern should be to the patients of this organization. I have never seen a union employee or representative be concerned about the quality of service or longevity of the business. It is all about the employee being paid above sustainable wages and making it impossible for the business to charge a reasonable fee for services or product. This directly affects the cost to the customer. Cost of service has to go up to cover wages, benefits etc… The loser here is always the employer and the customer.
More money is in the pockets of the union leaders and politicians.
But back to the criminal element here; Unions in the US are knowingly representing illegal aliens. Not only are they doing it knowingly, they are doing it aggressively. What happened to the American worker? What happened to “Proudly made in America” by Americans?
I do not see any protection for Americans or American jobs. Unions seem to be apposed to outsourcing jobs to India and other over seas countries, but they are eager to recruit employees from out of the country to take the jobs of legal Americans. And they seem ok with shipping jobs over to Mexico. What is the draw of Mexicans? I don’t get it. The only answer I can come up with is they are easily duped into believing the union cares about them and will protect them. Unions had their place in the beginning, today; they are just another form of government to take your money to further their ambitions.
In the end, the only winner is the union at the cost of employers, employees and most importantly the customer.
Because the union decides the hire-ability of an employee, they decide how a business is represented. They decide what actions an employer can take to verify the legal status etc of the applicant. Want your business to only speak English? Too bad, the union won’t allow it. Want to re-organize employees to be more productive and give better service? Can’t do it until it comes time to renegotiate the contract and then only if your lawyers are better than the unions. Want to fire the employee that is causing trouble or is just plain lazy? Talk to a union rep. and pray to God the employee isn’t paid up on dues.
Want to pray to God? Better clear that with the union, it may be blocked by the contract.
I could go on for hours on this… But I will leave you with this:
Oregon is an “at will” employer. This means the employee and employer can terminate employment for any reason or none eat all. This allows everyone the freedom to work where and when they want. Everyone has to do their best to protect the job. Free market keeps everyone honest because they have everything to lose if they screw up. Prices too high? The competition sells more. Pay your employees too little or the work environment isn’t good? The employees leave and you can’t keep the doors open.
In the end, Americans have enough government to protect wages, work environment and conditions. Unions have outlived their usefulness and need to leave the non-union companies alone.
I avoid union run businesses when ever I can. This is not always an option, but I try.
